In 1887 Nutana residents, of various denominations began holding joint services in the Little Stone School House, which was originally located on the grounds of Victoria School. Dedicated Anglican services began there in 1891.  In 1906 Mr. W.P. Bate and Mr. Wiggins wrote to the Anglican bishop asking for a church in the Nutana area.  The first service in St. James' Church took place on October 6, 1907, with Rev. H.J. Likeman as the first incumbent.   The church was a wooden building constructed from funds donated by a devout parishioner from St. James' Church in Doncaster, England.

In 2007, St. James' celebrated 100 years as a parish.  To honour the occasion, longtime parishioner, Mary McKay who is also our librarian and archivist, began to write a series of articles about the history of St. James'. The series is called Many Mini Ministry Mysteries. Each article is listed below in pdf format.
